Introducing NEW! Mini Kit: Holiday Hugs

Our Make It Market Mini Kits are designed for those who love the idea of Betsy Veldman's popular kits, but are a bit more budget conscious.  As another perk, these new kits will NOT be limited edition, they will be a regular item carried in our store.  These will be released throughout the year randomly, not on a set schedule, so it will be a surprise each month as to whether or not there will be a new one to collect! Now a little bit more of the Make It Market Mini Kit being released this month, Holiday Hugs!

Holiday Hugs is a fun new mini kit and offers so many possibilities. The kit itself contains all of the bits and pieces needed to turn this into a festive santa and snowman. The arms of the characters can be wrapped around a gift card, or candy, mason jar (wide mouth or standard), the new Post & Parcel Gift Envelope, pencils, etc, or just used to cover a sentiment stamped on the tag.  They can also be wrapped around the new Kraft Window Tubes we are carrying (available for sale separately).  For fun design options and pops of color, there is a stencil that can add patterns to the clothing/accessories that the characters are wearing! The kit includes, stamps, dies, the stencil and even a collection of pre-printed characters that can be die-cut when you're pressed for time.

Here is a closer look at each of the individual items in this kit!

The Holiday Hugs stamp set contains some great basics for creating the characters themselves, as well as fun tags and labels to go along with your special packaged treats.

Betsy created a die collection to coordinate with the stamps, many of the dies also coordinate with images found on the papers.  Betsy included outlines on the sheets so you can easily place the dies on top and run through your die-cutting machine for perfect cuts every time.

To go along with her stamp set and dies, Betsy has designed a paper collection that draws from the images found in the stamp set and stencils.  The detail is just awesome!  The Holiday Hugs paper collection contains 9 (4-1/4" x 5-1/2") sheets, 1 sheet each of 9 designs and it is printed on our signature white linen paper. Coordinates with the following colors -

For fun design options and pops of color, this stencil can be used to add patterns to the clothing/accessories that the characters are wearing! As you know, stencils are so quick and easy to use, so you will be able to create an entire wardrobe for your Holiday Hugs characters in no time at all! The stencil measures 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" total.

All of the items in the Holiday Hugs Kit are exclusive to this kit and will not be available for sale separately, except for the paper (see details below).  The price breakdown of each item is included to help you see the value in this amazing kit!

The main base for the characters is a tag shape (Tag Sale: Huggable) which will be sold separately because Betsy has already been brainstorming about more characters to come for other holidays!  This tag serves is a universal base to build your characters. As an added bonus, it's large enough to hold a gift card!

These new Kraft Window Tubes are just the thing to pair up with the Holiday Hugs kit, and more. The interior is wax lined, so any residue or oils from foods you may place inside will not soak through the tube. Coming in at a little over 6" tall, these are a great size to hold all sorts of things, even small gifts.

• These ship/store flat and are easy to assemble. 
• Each tube measures about 2-1/2" diameter and a little over 6" tall.

Dawn has taken some of the basic retro patterns found on a thermos and reinterpreted them into basic cover plates that can have SO many applications. Now that I've made all of the formal introductions, let's get onto the projects!

In the effort to provide full disclosure, I designed Canned to fulfill a paper crafting wih of mine, to have the perfect set to complement my other hobby, canning!  I love to give my canned goods as gifts and not only does the new stamp set create the perfect labeling and tag options, but that sweet little jar bonnet finishes a jar off  to perfection!  Here I have packaged up a jar of my homegrown green beans!  I completed this packaging in about 15 minutes!  If I was doing several at once, it would be even less time per jar!

The jar bonnet die was used with just regular patterned paper!   The Tropical Teal gingham was my first choice!  It's so gorgeous!  My little tip is to wrap a rubber band around the jar top to hold the paper in place, then tie on your twine.  When your done making sure that the twine is secure, you can remove the rubber band. 

I stampd the front of this Folded Foodie Tag with the coordinating stamp from Canned in New Leaf.  "Homegrown", just one of the MANY option from this set, was stamped in Tropical Teal.  The line below it with room for the date underneath was also done in Tropical Teal.  I could then fill in the blanks with a black pen.

The Folded Foodie Tag givess you the perfect place to tuck some instructions, serving suggestions, or any other important details inside.  I stamped the lines and other details using stamps included in the new Canned set.

Take a look at this cute project!  I'm just smitten with it and know I wuld love to recieve it!

I die-cut a circle of Pure Poppy cardstock to put under the rim of the lid for a pop of color.  The tag is held in place with the banner die included in the Jar Bonnet collection.  To make things quick and easy, the banner is cut from one of our White Adhesive Sheets, then stamped with the coordinating plaid banner stamp.  I was able to just peel and stick it into place, up and over the lid and onto the tag.

The plain, un-notched end of the banner can tuck right into the lip of the lid on the back for a finished look.

I heat embossed this fun sentiment from Canned onto the Aqua Mist Tasting Tag.  A flower and leaf detail from the Songbirds die collection was added just above that.

As you can see here, the mini spoon is tied into place with twine that come up through the holes that are already perfectly placed because of the design of the Tasting Tag die.  There are even a few sentiments included that can be stamped onto the handle of the spoon.  This one is probably my favorite!

I added some bitty dot paper at the bottom of the tag and also added the details of the contents in black pen.  Even though I have some homemade Peach Rhubarb Jam here, this tag would work perfectly with ALL sorts of things!  Anythign edible that you would like to share with friends and family!

I could hardly wait to put the new Cross Stitched Alphabet to work on this set of coasters I wanted to make for my grandmother.  She loves blueberry motifs and has them *everywhere* in her living room, so I thought these colors would be just perfect for her!  I used one of the larger Stitched Circle dies for the coaster base to make things extra easy!

 

I die-cut my grandmother's monogram into the coasters and stitched them with all six strands of embroidery floss.

The wreath was die-cut with Rustic Wreath and stiched in place with a single stitch for each leaf in a coordinating floss.  I also stitched on tiny blue seed beads, to represent blueberries.

The coasters were backed with Blueberry Sky felt.

 I think she will love this little collection of coasters, especially since they are made with love!

I have one last project to share with you!  The cute little Vintage Favor It Box from Erin!  I used my version to hold a few tea bags to give along with a new mug.  This would be a great little inexpensive gift for soemone you want to show your appreciation to!

The box was die-cut from Classic Kraft cardstock and stamped with the coordinating frames (from Just a Little Something) in Fresh Snow.  I die-cut the window from the top and backed it with clear cardstock.  Just liek retail packaging!  I die-cut the banner and stamped it in Melon Berry.  The main sentiment was added in Pure Poppy, then the companion sentiment in True Black.  I also added the leaves from the Seasonal Stitching: Holly dies and a few buttons.

One of the clever things about the design of this Vintage Favor It Box die is the mini zipper die Erin included as a separate die.  You can add it to one end of the box...

 

and then the recipient can pull the zipper open and get to the contents!  :

Now that I've made all of the formal introductions, let's get onto the projects!

I thought it would be fun to create a card that looked somewhat like a book to go along with this hand-stamped bookmark.

By adding an extra score line and a few extra cuts, I was able to transform an ordinary A2 card into a book card!

The cover was decorated with a few stamps from Autumn Adornments.  Fillable Frames #7 was cut from Classic Kraft cardstock and stamped with the coordinating image in Ripe Avocado.  This was the perfect size for a sentiment from Book Club, added using Fresh Snow ink.

The faux "spine" was also stamped, at a bit of an angle, to help with the illusion.  I added a line with a white gel pen along the extra score line to emphasize it.

I added a strip of Classic Kraft striped paper along the top edge of the Classic Kraft interior to help add the illusion  of "pages".  A sentiment from Inside & Out: Birthday was added to complete the interior.

The bookmark I made to coordinate with the project uses many of the same supplies.  I cut the main piece using Basic Bookmark #3 and Classic Kraft cardstock.  I then cut an opening using Fillable Frames #7 and backed it with a second bookmark cut from vellum.  The die-cut "W" was then adhered over the window.

The bottom of the bookmark was stamped with the same images and colors as the card front.  Don't you love the detail of the die?  All those little pierced holes framing it?  SO gorgeous!  I can hardly wait for you to see this die in person!

I made my own felt tassle for the top of the bookmark.  It's super easy to do if you have pinking shears on hand!  Simply cut a rectangle of felt measuring 3-3/4" x 1-3/4".  Trim the top edge with pinking shears.  Then notch out the end 1", leaving about 1/4" strip at the bottom (see illustration below).  Then use regular scissors to snip in between each point that the pinking shears created.

Then cut a thin, long strip of felt to thread through the bookmark hole, trimming the ends to be pointed with the pinking shears.  Add 1/8" Scor-tape along the bottom of the tassle block and prepare to line the long strip along with the ends of the tassle strips.

Remove the paper backing from the tassle block and roll it up, catching the long strip along with it.

When giving this as a gift, you can tuck the bookmark right inside the card!  Any booklover would just adore this!

I have another ensemble to show you, this time utilizing the new Stitched Bookmark die.

This simple card showcases a heartfelt sentiment from Book Club, perfect to provide a bit of encouragement.

I stamped the sentiment in Classic Kraft and then stitched a few die-cut felt flowers and leaves around it.  They were die-cut using the Beautiful Ballerina die.  Seed beads were added to the center of the flowers.

Cover Plate: Deco was die-cut in Harvest Gold and adhered to the Vintage Cream card front.

For the bookmark I die-cut the front from Canyon Clay felt and die-cut the window with a second pass.  

The back is cut from Harvest Gold felt, along with these two strips which were stitched between the layers.

Vintage Cream felt was sandwiched in between the layers as well, which was die-cut with the new Embroidered Borders die and stitched in a variety of colors.  I added additional felt flowers and leaves to it to coordinate with the card.
