Hi everyone! Welcome to this month’s Traveler’s Journal feature. Today I am sharing how you can incorporate the Moments Inked products into your journals. Moments Inked products are geared towards using in your planners (although there are lots of other uses too.) You can set up your Traveler’s Journal to use as a planner or use the Moments Inked products as a part of your Traveler’s Journal. The Traveler’s Journal team has some great ideas to share for using your journal to plan for different things - you are sure to be inspired!
I set up a journal to use as my garden planner for this year and it will be perfect for looking back at what we did and how our garden looked.
For the cover, I used the die cut script alphabet to spell out “garden” and then added that to a piece of white cardstock that I die cut with the Mix & Mat die and layered onto a piece of linen vellum. The little flag above the word is stamped with the “planning” word from the Traveler’s Journal: Currently set and Moments Inked: Planner Banner stamp set. I typed the year on my typewriter and punched it out with a circle punch.
In the front of the journal I added a picture from my garden to the inside cover and a pocket to tuck some extras into. Right now I have a few seed packets tucked in there so I remember to go back and add specifics in my journal later on in the season.
I made a few circle embellishments to use in my journal that I stamped with some garden images from the Moments Inked: Everyday Symbols set - I used the bee image on this page. I stamped the image with Prairie Grass ink over the top of a polka dot stamped with Fresh Snow ink and then I punched it out with a circle punch. I also made a bunch of the little banner flags like the one on the cover. The one on this page is stamped with “loving” from the Traveler’s Journal: Currently set.
The trick to putting together your journals/layouts quickly with embellishments like this is to sit down and stamp, die cut, punch, and assemble a bunch at once. Things move so much faster when you have a pile of finished pieces that you can grab from!
For the pocket, I die cut some kraft cardstock that I stamped with some polka dots in Fresh Snow ink with the Moments Inked: Pocket Page die. The pocket is too big for the journal page and so I trimmed it down a bit so it would fit and then stitched it down with my sewing machine. I also added a tab to the page with the “garden” label made from the Moments Inked: Divided stamp set and die.
This next layout includes a simple diagram of how I planted our box gardens this year along with a photo of how things are looking so far.
I cut cardstock to represent my gardens and then typed in what I planted in them. It isn’t exactly to scale, but it will help me remember where things were when I look back when I am planning my garden in the future.
On this picture of one of my gardens, I added a few fun embellishments using the Garden Variety set and coordinating dies.
For this next layout I added a picture and a list of the plants in the herb area of my garden.
On the picture I added a title using the Type Strips II stamp set that I die cut from an adhesive sheet using the Type Bits Strip die. The flowers that you probably have noticed sprinkled through my journal are die cut with the Grand Botanicals die from a white adhesive sheet which makes them super easy to peel and stick wherever I wanted to put some.
For my list, I stamped some lined using the Moments Inked: Posted II set with Fresh Snow ink on Kraft cardstock. I typed up the herbs with my typewriter and then die cut out the list using the Moments Inked: Basic Pages die.
I added a few embellishments to the page as well as one of the sentiments from the Garden Variety set.
I have one more layout to share that I did to document the new perennial garden I added in the front of my house. I am anxious to see how this garden evolves over the years and I know I will enjoy looking back and remembering how it looked when I first planted it and what I actually planted too.
I kept the layout very similar to the previous one. Doing this makes the process on doing the pages quicker and the book is more unified.
I added a title to the photo just like I did on the herb garden layout.
And I did a list like the previous layout, this time adding the watering can, a little banner flag, and the stamped “fleurs” word.
I will keep adding and updating this journal as the garden season goes on this year!
