Now that I've made all of the formal introductions, let's get onto the projects!
How about we jump right into some coloring projects using Botanical Blocks IV?
>>>TIP: I've always liked the size of these blocks because they are a great size for a card front, and they also make great tags as is, which is a nice feature for the holidays. Here I have just used them on cards, but imagine taking the colored block off the card, adding a simple eyelet and stringing it with some baker's twine?
I colored the holly with Copic markers. Around the outside edge of the greenery I added a few scribbles of BG11, then around the outer edge of that I scribbled with the Colorless Blender for a soft look.
>>>TIP: For something a bit different and to help reduce the bulk of my card, I cut the cardsotck around the holly image a little larger than the frame, and colored from the edge to the frame with R29, then added a touch of shading along the frame edge with R59. The result is the look of an extra layer of red cardstock.
I used one of the sentiments from Botanical Blocks IV under the colored panel, stamping in VersaMark and heat embossing in Gold Filigree. Simple but classic.
>>>TIP: Heat embossing can sometimes cause a little bit of warping to cardstock, and if you have ever tried to use a warped card base, it just never stands up correctly and looks flawed. When I want to heat emboss on the main body of a card, I cut an extra panel the same color as the card base and heat emboss on that. It actually gives it a bit of a sophisticated look to have the double layer and it gives you the option of adding extra adhesive to attach it securely and eliminate that warped look.
My next project uses the poinsettia block from Botanical Blocks IV. I drew this in such a way that it can be interpreted for year round use, like I did here with this project.
I colored the flowers with Copics, using a nice contrast of pale pastels for the florals and leaves, then bold dark colors for the background. This adds a bit more drama and emphasis I think. I used some Glossy Accents on tome of the exterior berries for dimension.
>>>TIP: For the tiniest berries in these images, don't try to color around them. Just color over them and then add a darker color to the berries. Or if coloring a dark background like I did here, go back in with a white gel pen to make the berries white.
The sentiment I used is from Keep It Simple: Just a Note. I love this simple serif font and think it has such a classic look to it. You could make the same project more casual, playful, etc, just by picking one of the other fonts in the stamp set.
I opted to run everything horizontally on this card, but you could totally do it vertically too if you like. It would give you a whole different look with the same supplies!
Wreaths are such a beautiful part of the holidays, and Heather's new Sprig Wreath is a perfect addition. The detail she has incorporated into the images of this set is just awesome.
>>>TIP: I have been experimenting a lot lately with VersaMark resist. I like the idea of it for mass producing and holiday projects because it saves a step without having to heat emboss to get similar results.
Here, I stamped the wreath in versa mark and sponged Simply Chartreuse ink over the image. To help add contract, I added a few stamped individual boughs in Ripe Avocado, as well as some berry clusters in Pure Poppy.
I am obsessed with the font styling and sentiment choices that Heather used for this set. It makes it easy to add a special flair to a project with little effort. I stamped this one in True Black.
I roughed up the edges of the white block with my fingernails to give it a more rustic look, then adhered that to a kraft card base.
For my last project, I created a little ornament trio with a few Copic markers and the new Script Swirls: Christmas stamp set.
I traced the three circles for the ornaments using a drinking glass and then colored them in with the appropriate Copic markers. Using the Colorless Blender, I added dots to the teal one and stripes to the pink one.
For the orange one, I stamped Script Swirls: Christmas in True Black. By adding a few lines with a black pen, I was able to "hang" the ornaments from the top of the card. A few stamped sprigs of holly help set a holiday tone!
I hope you have enjoyed all the creations that I have shared with you today! Florals for the holidays are a personal favorite, how do you feel about them?
