Lizzie Jones has captured the true essence of Jackson Pollock's drips and splatters with her tutorial today! He has some of the most recognizable paintings in the art world and brought a whole new perspective when he entered the scene. I loved this short little biography about him, especially getting to see his body movements and the energy he put into his drips and splatters.
Lizzie says, "Inspired by the work of Jackson Pollock, we will be exploring how we can create lively, dynamic patterns on our projects. In addition, we’ll learn how we can use these patterns to draw the eye toward a focal point or sentiment. We will be using a variety of paint brushes and other everyday craft supplies help us to drip, drizzle, and splatter in the characteristic style of the artist. These techniques are ideal for watercolors, reinkers, and even diluted acrylic paint."

- STAMPS: Happy For You, Background Basics: Super Stripes - Papertrey Ink
- DIES: Keep It Simple Frames die collection
- INK: True Black, Hawaiian Shores - Papertrey Ink
- PAPER: Smokey Shadow, Hawaiian Shores, Watercolor Paper (Strathmore)
- OTHER: Watercolor Paints (Gansai Tambi), Foam Tape (Scotch), Sewing Machine, Assorted Paint Brushes, Yarn
MEASUREMENTS & CUTTING LIST:
- Card Base: 4 1/4” x 11”, scored at 5 1/2”
- Painted Panel: 4” x 5 1/4”
- Banners: trimmed to about 3 3/8”
LIZZIE'S MASTER TIPS:
- Allow the ink or paint layers to dry before adding a new color. This allows the colors to remain nice and crisp. The sun does a great job of drying quickly without warping your paper.
- Cut your watercolor paper to be larger than you need so you have room to trim off areas you don't want on your final project. This also allows you to tape down your paper's edges to minimize warping.
- Have a variety of brushes and craft objects on hand for experimenting. Different brushes will give different effects.
- The more paint or ink you have in your brush, the larger the splatters are likely to be.
- You may want to wear latex gloves if you're worried about staining your fingers.
- Make sure to cover everything carefully! Those little speckles have a knack for getting everywhere. Don't forget to cover yourself, too. Wear a paint shirt or smock to protect clothing.
