Scherenschnitte, which means “scissor cuts” in German, is the art of intricate paper cutting. Now you can easily capture a similar look in your own paper crafting with the Paper Clippings series of stamps and dies. The Paper Clippings: Thinking of You stamp set includes an oversized sentiment, perfect for letting loved ones know they are in your thoughts. The generously sized wreath can be embellished with the floral images from the set, or it would pair beautifully with other floral or bird images from your collection. Use the stamps with the coordinating dies, or on their own for lots options!

This new die collection is a nice basic that can be used to frame large sentiments and so much more. You can use the leaves alone, layer two cut from different colors and offset them slightly, or embellish with the flowers included or florals from previously released dies. For a little texture you can bend the tips of the leaves upwards and of course, you can add color with ink blending, watercolor or whatever else you can dream up!

Now that I've made all of the formal introductions, let's get onto the projects!
One of the things I love about having great basics like the Garden Garland die collection is that it's easy to plug in a favorite new color scheme, and then just add an appropriate sentiment for the occasion. I did that here with this Walk By Faith card.
The entire garland was cut from white cardstock, then I added my colors to the various pieces with Copic markers.
TIP: You could get a similar effect by cutting them from various colored cardstocks and adding a bit of sponging with ink a shade darker if you aren't much of a colorer.
I used a fine tip black pen to add a few details to the centers of the orange flowers. If you were using darker colors, you could use a white gel pen for a different look.
Walk By Faith, the new sentiment set from Heather Nichols is really gorgeous and easily sets off a project, not to mention it delivers a powerful message as well. I stamped this particular sentiment in True Black at the center of the garland frame.
Another easy technique you can do with the Garden Garland dies is to keep everything monochromatic. For this project I stuck with white, but you really could do it with any single favorite color.
For the sentiment, I die-cut the word "Praise" three times from white cardstock and adhered the layers together for dimension. Same thing with the flourish. These were colored with Copic markers, blending the two colors together in the middle. The companion sentiment was stamped in Charcoal Palette ink.
As I mentioned before, all of the elements of the garland were cut from white cardstock. Small iridescent sequins were adhered to the centers of the flowers for a little added sparkle.
TIP: When creating a monochromatic card, it is important to emphasize texture so that the details still gain attention rather than fade into the background. With dies especially, adhere the centers only so you can go around with your fingers and gently curl the various details forward. This small step makes a big difference.
The completed crisp, white card really grabs your attention despite the lack of color. You could play around with different Copic duos for the focal point word to give you even more options.
Betsy's new addition to her Paper Clippings line is really gorgeous. The details in the main die are especially stunning. I opted to keep things simple and work with a few layers of kraft.
All of my color was added with Copic markers. I always have fun coloring on kraft cardstock with these because you can get some really fun results and it kind of gives you a whole new palette to work from.
TIP: Create a kraft Copic swatch page to keep on file. It is amazing how different some colors look on kraft vs. traditional white cardstock. Having a small swatch page where you have tested things out will make it easier to pick out appropriate color combos and stay away from colors that might not work well with this type of cardstock.
The flowers tucked into the corner of this wreath are my favorite. You get to watch all of the detail come to life when you add color. Not big on coloring? Don't worry, Betsy has you covered! The coordinating stamp set has stamps to match many of these details so you can just stamp and go.
With the Copics I was able to add some pretty shading to the lettering to make it jump from the kraft background.
I left the "twig" portion of the wreath plain, I love the way it blends seamlessly with the matching card base, but it visible as a textural element rather than contrasting in a different color. The small "I've Been" companion sentiment was stamped at the top of the wreath with True Black ink. For the record, there is also a "We've Been" stamp included in the set, which I just LOVE and am anxious to use!
This thank you card came together quickly and it quite easy to create. With the new Splits collection from Maile, she has all of the hard work down for you!
I stamped the new Splits: Thank You frame onto white cardstock with VersaMark ink and heat embossed it in white filigree embossing powder. I then colored over the images using ZIG Watercolor Markers. After applying the color, I brushed over them using an aqua brush pen making it easy to control the amount of water I used. Once dry, I added some black dots with a fine tip pen.
TIP: If you want to apply a second contrasting color, like I did here by adding teal to the green leaves, add it after you have watercolored with the first base color. On the leaves here, I added water to the green layer first, let it dry slightly. But while the paper was still slightly damp, I added a stroke of the teal color. By adding just a little more water, it blends nicely but doesn't get lost in the original darker color.
I cut the white panel in two and used it as a reference to mark the Tropical Teal layer for sentiment placing. The phrase was heat embossed with white filigree embossing powder as well. The white panels were adhered with foam tape for dimension. I wrapped the bottom panel with a little white crochet thread finished in a bow as a finishing detail.
