Now that I've made all of the formal introductions, let's get onto the projects!
My first card is a very simple card, a traditional recipe of a beautiful floral set for the background and a large sentiment die to communicate the message.
I started with one of my new favorite color schemes and built my project them from there.
I die-cut the phrase three times and adhered the layers together. I like to use a two-way glue pen for this type of detail work.
TIP: This particular die-cut sentiment has two dotted "i" details. I like to make sure I retrieved the dots first after die-cutting and set them in a small pile together. After I have the main sentiment stacked and glued in place, I add the dot layers one at a time directly to the card front. Adhering those layers together on the card makes things a little bit easier. Tweezers also come in handy.
For the background, I started with the largest florals first, and then built everything around that. The large solid florals and the solid leaves were inked in the lighter color and were blended around the outside edge with a slightly darker color, adding a bit more depth to the colors.
You could easily swap out the color scheme and make several of these to have on hand for upcoming birthdays!
For my next project I thought it would be fun to experiment with the absence of color. It all began with a Sweet Blush card base. I stamped the solid portion of the florals in Fresh Snow, then added the details on top of that with Smokey Shadow. The texture of Fresh Snow pigment ink softens the Smokey Shadow color a bit in a really interesting way. Using a T1 Copic marker, I added a little drop shadow under all of the elements.
TIP: When doing this, it can be a little difficult to see the Fresh Snow layers when you are trying to add the Smokey Shadow details. Add the T1 Copic shadows after stamping the white solid portion. This will help you to see what you are doing a bit better as you move onto the next step.
This great sentiment from the Floral Sketches set was added underneath the bouquet in Smokey Shadow as well.
You definitely don't need to limit yourself to pink if you wanted to recreate this project at home! Aqua Mist, Winter Wisteria and other soft pastels would all be great colors to experiment with!
This is literally one of the easiest cards ever, and that is because Dawn has put all of the work for you! Her new Floral Sketches paper pad has a fun bright color scheme that's easy to use.
I trimmed a little from this A2 sheet so there was a white border left at the bottom of my card front. In that spot I added "Smile" from the new Calligraphy Classics in Raspberry Fizz. I added a drop shadow in Lovely Lady.
TIP: With large sentiments like this it can be fun to add a drop shadow. Just ink up your stamp in a second lighter color, offset slightly lower than your original impression and stamp. It's quick and easy and adds a nice little special detail to your card. This works especially well with the new Calligraphy Classics.
I trimmed out a small floral cluster from another sheet of the same paper and adhered that over the edge of the patterned paper layer to help frame the sentiment a bit better. Just a few easy steps and this project was complete!
I have another fairly simple project to share with you, this one only using images from Calligraphy Classics. The small floral details included in the set are great for embellishing around the large stamped phrases.
The sentiment is stamped in Tropical Teal, while the elements around it are added in Simply Chartreuse, Berry Sorbet, Orange Zest, and Summer Sunrise. I used a small tip black pen to add some dots to the centers of the flowers.
As an extra little element I adhered three layers of cardstock together to form the card front. Using a Copic marker, I added the frame around the top then carried that color around the sides. It gives the project a nice boutique feel, not to mention some sturdiness and structure.
TIP: When adding a frame like this, the chisel tip end of a Copic marker works beautifully and no need for a ruler. I did the frame in two layers so that the overlap of my strokes at the corners virtually disappeared.
You could use nearly any sentiment from Calligraphy Classics for this project, and of course you could swap out the color schemes too!
I decided to pull out the Monogram Stencils from the Make It Market: Don't Forget to Write Kit to create some little A1 notecards for myself. I had been excited to try another color combo using the new Americana color, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity.
I wanted to illustrate here how amazing Dawn's new Floral Sketches set is. On the left you will see just the solid images stamped around my monogram. On the right I have added the "second" layer of images using just Dark Chocolate ink (Ocean Tides on the tiny flowers). The details she incorporated are just gorgeous, totally smitten over here!
For the monogram itself, I wanted something really clean with a slight ombré feel so I ended up using a fine tip black pen to trace the stencils onto my card. I then used Copic markers to color them in.
TIP: I like to use a Pigma Micron pen from Sakura with a .01 tip for things like this. The tiny tip gets into all the little corners of the stencil beautifully and the ink tends to not bleed or puddle when you pause in the middl of your tracing or at corners.
These little A1 notecards are a perfect fit for the Gold Seams Envelope Refills we are selling in the store as a companion item for the Don't Forget to Write Kit. Can hardly wait to sit down and write a few overdue notes of gratitude!
