Betsy has all kinds of pointers to show you about the new Plaid Builder set in this short video that she put together!
Now that I've made all of the formal introductions, let's get onto the cards! Today is all about inspiring you with color and images that evoke sweet summertime. We not only created some summertime inspired projects for you, they have also shared our favorite summertime color schemes. You can pin the individual color graphics that appeal to you or download all of them in one printable pdf at the bottom of the post!
For my first project I used New Leaf, Blueberry Sky, Aqua Mist, Summer Sunrise and Orange Zest paired with Betsy's new Quilted: Summer set. There is just something about this color scheme that makes you smile!
I die-cut the quilt block from white cardstock and stamped the bits and pieces with the coordinating stamps from the set using the established color scheme. To help bring all of the colors together, I created my own custom stamped mix on two of the triangles. I started with the floral pattern from the set stamped in Aqua Mist, followed by the leaves in New Leaf and some smaller flowers in Limeade Ice. Copic Markers Y38 and B45 were used to add pops of additional color to the flower centers.
The sentiment (from the previously released Doodlie-do set) was heat embossed in white onto Aqua Mist cardstock. I trimmed it down into a block and and added it to the center of the quilt square.
The card base for this was cut down to a slim 4" wide rather than 4-1/4" so that the corners of the quilt block would extend over the edge for added visual interest, while still fitting in a standard A2 envelope.
My next project uses Orange Zest, Hibiscus Burst, Simply Chartreuse, Aqua Mist and Tropical Teal as a fun summertime inspired scheme. These colors paired up with Lizzie's new Second Helping of Sunshine set make it almost two easy to create a card that makes you yearn for the lazy days of summer!
I did a lot of double inking on this card to help add depth and interest. Th vintage Pyrex bowl was inked in Aqua Mist and then the top edge was blended with Tropical Teal ink for extra shading. The cherries were inked with a combination of Hibiscus Burst and Raspberry Fizz, then finished with Simply Chartreuse leaves.
I used the large triangles from Quilted: Summer to create a border that grounds the bowl of cherries. The gingham triangles were first inked in Summer Sunrise and then blended with Orange Zest. For the floral triangles, I used a similar process as my first card today. I stamped them with the florals from Quilted: Summer using Hibiscus Burst, followed by leaves in Simply Chartreuse and tiny flowers in Tropical Teal. I used the Y38 Copic marker to accent the centers of the tiny flowers. Integrating all of these colors into the triangles helps to bring out the same colors that were used in the bowl of cherries, making everything cohesive.
Everything was adhered to an Aqua Mist card front. The sentiment (from Second Helping of Sunshine) was heat embossed in white just above the quilted border. I used a white gel pen to add a line of stitching underneath the border as a finishing touch.
My last card today is actually inspired by a box of fruit popsicles I purchased recently! And what says summer more than ice cold popsicles! The scheme is Terracotta Tile, Berry Sorbet, Plum Pudding, Hibiscus Burst and Summer Sunrise.
This bouquet from Quilted: Summer was inked with Terracotta Tile, Plum Pudding and Hibiscus Burst, followed by the addition of a Summer Sunrise center and Ripe Avocado Leaves. The sentiment (from the previously released Scrolling Script) was heat embossed onto the Classic Kraft cardstock card front. White crochet thread accents the little bouquet and I also wrapped some around the card front for additional interest.
The background I created using Plaid Builder really helps to bring this color scheme to life. I was able to create an A2-sizewd sheet of it in a matter of minutes, then cut it into strips so I could create more than one card with it.
Now that you have seen a few of my creations, here are some of the amazing things that the team has created!

Melissa says, "There are certain things from my childhood that always remind me of summertime, one is fresh fruit... specifically ripe, juicy cherries. We picked cherries as a family each summer and what we didn’t enjoy fresh from the tree, we’d bottle. The new Second Helping of Sunshine is like taking a short trip down memory lane to my childhood and I can already tell this set will be a favorite of mine…not to mention I’m a sucker for vintage scales!”
