Welcome to the 1920‘s - commonly referred to as the Roaring Twenties or the Jazz Age. The world was just coming out of of World War 1 and a huge economic boom was happening. Because of this boom, cities grew and people had more money to spend on things like ready-to-wear clothes, appliances, and luxuries like radios.

The 1920s was the beginning of a social shift and a “consumer society” was beginning with people being influenced in music, dance, and language. Women now had the right to vote and prohibition was in full swing. So many traditional notions of popular behavior were challenged during this time and the gap between the wealthy and poor widened.

The stereotypical “flapper” girl of the 1920s represented the rebelliousness of the era. They wore short skirts, bobbed their hair, listened to jazz, and went against the social norms. They were known for their recognizable style that was greatly influenced by French fashion and embraced all things modern. Jewelry and evening gowns had an Art Deco flair.

Below you will find a Spotify playlist that has been put together just for this era! There's enough music to entertain you for over two hours while you are working on your challenge projects!

Now onto the challenges!

I am so excited to show you how to create your own rhinestone embellishment that was a popular must have accessory in the 1920's on jewelry, on clothing, and worn in the hair. Using a die I specially designed that is based off of a vintage 1920's jewelry piece, I will show you how easy it is to replicate the stunning rhinestone designs of the era. Gather your rhinestones, the more the merrier, to create some true Roaring 20's glitz and glamour.

Use the die from the Explore the 1920's kit, or another die of your choosing, with clear cardstock, and rhinestones to create a rhinestone design embellishment and then use it on a project. (If you don't have clear cardstock, you can repurpose the clear sheets that your stamps come on!)

--Now it's your turn! Create a project featuring a rhinestone design created on clear cardstock. You can choose to re-create an exact project from the designer above or design your own. Your project must also incorporate at least one Papertrey product.

Here's another way to put together a stunning rhinestone and glitter accessory using the die that I designed for the 1920's era. In this video I share more tips on using the die and I also have a few tips to share for how you can combine glitter and rhinestones together easily. You will love the technique and surely be inspired to use it again and again because the results are just beautiful!
