And not only that, but we've got a host of new stitching dies to share with you too! You're in for a treat!
Erin Lincoln is at it again, with what is sure to be the latest and greatest gift craze! Whether you decide to make these little beauties from felt or fabric, these coin purses make a quick and easy little sewing project. These little zippered pouches are an inexpensive homemade gift that can be customized in hundreds of ways. You can create them with or without a pocket. You can accent using the new spring stitched shapes or the coffee cozy accents. You can also add monograms, decorative buttons, ribbon, pompom trim, rickrack, decorative embroidery or whatever else you can dream up!

We are kicking off the new Seasonal Stitches shapes series, by Erin Lincoln, with a spring theme! The adorable little creations can be cut from paper, felt, fabric or anything else you are inspired by. Imagine these on adorable little Easter tags! Now that I've made all of the formal introductions, let's get onto the projects!
My first coin purse is super simple. I decided to make it out of a thin suede. If you walk through your favorite craft store, you will see all kinds of possibilities for materials you can experiment with!
The diecut is folded in half along the short side to accomodate a 4" zipper.
Before I stitched it together, I diecut the largest Beautiful Blooms II #2 die from the suede itself, creating an opening. I then backed the opening with a square of turquoise fabric that had been stabilized with fusible interfacing and glued it in place with fabric glue. I diecut a smaller flower using the same die collection and fabric and stitched it to the middle of the large flower with a Simply Chartreuse button. I then used sharp scissors to cut in between the individual petals for added detail.
I hand cut some leaves from Simply Chartreuse felt and stitched them in place around the flower. After the flower was done, that is when I finished the assembly and stitching of the purse, just like in Erin's video. So incredibly quick and easy. I finished the whole thing from beginning to end while watching Pride & Prejudice, and was done before the movie ended!
Next is a version of the purse folded on the long side, making a great little pencil case. This size uses a 6" zipper. I diecut the main portion of the purse from Simply Chartreuse felt.
This little bird accent was cut using the new Seasonal Stitching: Bird dies. I backed some yellow floral fabric with fusible interfacing and diecut it with the main bird die. I then cut a wing with the separate wing die from Vintage Cream felt. I stitched everything in place onto the front of the pencil case using an orange embroidery floss.
As an added twist, I stitched through the edge of this mini pompom trim as I made my way around the purse. I love the way this dresses up the edge. I'm thinking this would work well with piping too!
This coin purse is made from cotton quilting fabric which has been backed with a nice stiff fusible interfacing.
It uses a 4" zipper along the top and features the new Coin Purse Pocket dies.
The butterfly on the front was created with the new Seasonal Stitching: Butterfly dies and Ocean Tides felt. I stitched it onto the purse front using embroidery floss.
The pocket was diecut from Ocean Tides felt too and stitched with the same embroidery floss. I made my own fabric covered button to accent the pocket and cover up the snap closure.
I found the perfect tassle to accent the zipper in the drapery section of the fabric store. Half the fun of these projects can be decorating the zipper!
I have one final project to share with you and it is this oil cloth make-up bag I made for Hannah. I wanted this to be a bit larger, so I used two full-size diecuts instead of folding.
The front of the makeup bag is accented with her monogram.
And it even has a decorative zipper pull that I accented with a strip of coordinating fabric.
The inside of it is lined with a bright colorful floral.
I thought I would show you a little step by step on this one in case you wanted to add a lining to one of your purse creations. I started with the floral fabric, cut a little larger than the Coin Purse die. I backed them with Wonder Under fusible web.
I then added the oilcloth to the back of the fabric by using a low heat setting on my iron. Be sure to iron the fabric side when fusing these together. An iron placed directly on the oil cloth can cause melting.
The I die-cut two pieces using the main Coin Purse die.
Next was adding the slot for the zipper. I placed the zipper slot die towards the top of the back piece. This size purse will need a 6" zipper.
I used the pre-cut holes to pin the zipper in place and then stitched it. So, SO, so easy with the pre-cut holes. Seriously, the easiest zippers I have ever set!
For the front accent, I backed the fabric with fusible interfacing and die cut it with the Mat Stack 7 die. I also diecut Hannah's monogram from pink oil cloth using the Bookprint Upper Alphabet die. I glued the "H" to the Mat Stack and then glued the entire piece onto the front portion of the purse.
After that, I was all ready for the exterior edge stitching. With the pre-cut holes, it's like you are back in Kindergarten using those lacing cards! Easy enough that kids can even do it!
