Now that I've made all of the formal introductions, let's get onto the projects!
For my first project I could hardly wait to pair up the new Cover Plate: Snow Drifts die with Holiday Home. I die-cut the plate from white cardstock and then popped out the two hill pieces. Setting those aside, I impressed the main part of the die-cut with the new Stitching impression plate. I knew this would add some amazing textural contrast when I put the hills back in place.
I die-cut the tree tops from Simply Chartreuse felt and adhered them in place with bits of Scor-tape. The house was die-cut from Classic Kraft cardstock and stamped with the coordinating image from Holiday Home using Classic Kraft ink. I cut out the tiny heart from Pure Poppy cardstock and adhered it to the house.
The sentiment was stamped with Charcoal Palette ink onto the bottom hill section. I pierced holes in that section and the one above and threaded them together with baker's twine, finishing it with a bow.
I love all the textures on this project with the felt and impression plate.
My next project could be used as a holiday card or as an everyday type project. I started by stamping the Melon Berry strip with the new Background Basics: Stitching set using Melon Berry ink.
I added the sentiments using Dark Chocolate. The "o" was stamped onto a die-cut piece of Classic Kraft cardstock using Dark Chocolate ink as well.
I pierced holes along the top edge and added stitching using white crochet thread, pulling the ends up through the front and finishing it with a bow.
I added a row of stamped houses along the top edge using Simply Chartreuse ink.
All of this was mounted onto a Spring Moss card base.
For this project I wanted to experiment a bit with using a cover plate as a guide for watercoloring. I impressed the die into white cardstock, using the same sandwich I would use for an impression plate. I then used ink refills to watercolor the background.
It was SO much fun and I love the results. Here you can see how the colors kind of "run" into the divot created by the die and it becomes a bit darker along that line. Try this technique for yourself and you'll see what I mean! After that dried I added a bit of sparkle with a Gelly Roll (Clear Star) pen. The buildings from Holiday Home were also added, using Soft Stone ink.
I added the sentiment to the top of the card using Charcoal Palette ink. To help create balance, I added snowflakes using Soft Stone ink.
I finished things off by mounting this to a Aqua Mist card base.
I kept this card really simple to allow the focal point to take center stage.
I stamped this stained glass window image onto the coordinating die-cut using Noir Black ink. I then colored it with Copic markers. I wish you could see this in person, but I added a layer of clear cardstock over the top of the image to make it more realistic and have a glass-like shine.
I colored the die-cut frame brown and added it over the clear cardstock.
The sentiment was added underneath the focal using Noir Palette ink as well. I just love this font and think it complements the idea of a stained glass window so well!
Because of the added durability with the clear cardstock, you could totally make this a removable ornament or magnet of come sort.
My next project features a festive Scarlet Jewel & Gold color scheme.
I die-cut the window shape from the front of my Scarlet Jewel card base and reserved the frame. I heat embossed the angel glass window onto clear cardstock using Gold Filigree Embossing powder and adhered it behind the window.
I pressed the window frame along with tsome this strips of cardstock into VersaMark ink and heat embossed them in gold too. They were all adhered in place with a 2-way glue pen. I added the sentiment underneath the lines with heat embossing as well.
I used a perfectly coordinating sentiment from Nativity Silhouettes for the interior of the card, heat embossing it as well.
I love how realistic this looks with the clear cardstock lining the opening and will definitely have to experiment with this some more!
The new Stained Glass set doesn't just have to be used a Christmas time. You can use it year round, especially paired up with Beautiful Blessings.
I heat embossed this stained glass image with White FIligree Embossing Powder and watercolored it with Simply Chartreuse, Aqua Mist and Summer Sunrise ink refills.
The sentiment was added to the right using True Black ink. Everything was mounted onto an Aqua Mist card base.
For my last project I wanted to use the new Nativity Silhouettes Additions dies. I thought the new Cover Plate: Snow Drifts die would pair up well with this so I die-cut it from white cardstock and popped out the two hills pieces.
I then stamped the top horizon line with the sun from Nativity Silhouettes in VersaMark ink. I heat embossed it with White Filigree Embossing Powder. I watercolored over it using Summer Sunrise refill. I also added a few splatters of color before the paper dried.
The palm trees were die-cut with the new Nativity Silhouettes Additions dies and stamped with the coordinating images using Soft Stone ink. The silhouettes were also die-cut and stamped in Canyon Clay. I love how the Cover Plate: Snow Drifts helps to ground everything. Not to mention it made it easy to "set the scene".
