Now that I've made all of the formal introductions, let's get onto the projects!
The first project I have to share with you today is this sweet little mini book that will hold all of Ethan's first day of school photos, Kindergarten through 12th grade. When completed it will be something wonderful to put out at his high school graduation party and see how much he has changed throughout the years!
This adorable mini book is quick and easy to make and only uses a few supplies. Four sheets of Smokey Shadow cardstock with each sheet cut into two 4-1/4" x 11" strips, scored in half. And the spine is made from a piece of Pure Poppy cardstock measuring 2-1/2" x 4-1/4", scored 1" from each side. A bit of white crochet thread is the only other thing you need!
I stacked all of the pages on top of each other and placed the spine over the scored edges. I then used the crochet thread to wrap around the interior crease of each set of pages and around to the outside of the Pure Poppy spine. When I was done wrapping, I tied of my string on the outside of the spine with a bow. The edges of the spine were adhered to the front and back covers with a little tape.
For the cover I die-cut the largest Angled Label and stamped it with the coordinating frame image from Label Basics using Orange Zest ink. The dotted school lines (from Teacher Tickets) were added with Harvest Gold. I then moved onto adding several elements using Back to School. "First Day of" was added to the lines using True Black, then "School" was added underneath with Hawaiian Shores ink. The apple was die-cut from Limeade Ice cardstock, then stamped with the alphabet apple in Simply Chartreuse, the stem being added in True Black. I used the Super Stars border die to cut out the Pure Poppy & Summer Sunrise stars, layering them on top of the apple. The adorable numbers from Back to School were stamped across the Smokey Shadow cover in True Black. I also added a flagged accent with a strip of Aqua Mist cardstock stamped diagonally with one of the "book spines" in Hawaiian Shores.
The tabs for each page were created with the Fillable Frames #1 die. I die-cut the frames from white cardstock and stamped them with the coordinating frame image in Orange Zest. I then cut each one of them in half.
I added the appropriate grades to each tab using the number dies and companion stamps from Back to School. The tiny Pure Poppy stars were once again cut with the Super Stars border.
Here is an example of a page from this book. I die-cut the Fabulous Frames shape from Pure Poppy cardstock and then stamped it with the coordinating image using VersaMark. I added one of the "book spines", die-cut from Limeade Ice cardstock and stamped with SImply Chartreuse. I love how this particular one looks so much like a book plate. A strip of white cardstock was stamped with the school lines from Teacher Tickets in Aqua Mist, which gave Ethan room to add his "signature". I think it will be fascinating to compare them from year to year! The date was added with Library Ledger Year Additions and Mini Scrapbooking Series: Journaling Circle.
Here is the first grade page already to go for this year. I left the top edge of the frame open so I can slide a photo down behind it.
TIP: If your child is older and you want to create a book like this, you can utilize their "signatures" on old school work or artwork they created for you in past years to fill in the name strip. You can trace it onto the white strip or scan the signature with your computer, resize it appropriately and print it out onto white paper, trimming it to size.
I have the rest of my accents die-cut and ready to go for the additional pages to be completed in the future.
This was a quick and easy project that will be fun to add to each year!
My next project is sweet & simple, which is sometimes just what you need when mass producing teacher thank you cards. I pulled out Wonderful Words: Teacher.
I inked the word "teacher" with Hawaiian Shores & Blueberry Sky inks. Notice that the top portion is inked with Blueberry Sky while the bottom portion is done with Hawaiian Shores. I stamped this onto my white cardstock and then created several more impressions without re-inking to give it this softer shadow effect.
I die-cut the word "teacher" from white cardstock and then adhered it slightly off center from the stamped version using foam tape. I love how this almost created a modern striped shadow behind the die-cut word.
I added the little flag with "we appreciate you" stamped in True Black. This was all adhered to a Blueberry Sky card base.
My next project uses elements from Back to School to create this fabulous bookworm card & coordinating bookmark, perfect for giving a child this summer along with a few new books.
The card started with this book accent. I die-cut the shape from white cardstock and added the books using Canyon Clay, Summer Sunrise and Ocean Tides. I love how this die-cut allows you to have the perfect design balance without any work since it shows you what height of book to use where! I added the "ABC" and "123" where appropriate.
The worm, from Way To Go, Kiddo, was stamped onto Classic Kraft using VersaMark and heat embossed with White Filigree embossing powder. I stamped Library Card on the white background using Classic Kraft ink and then added the "Enjoy you're summer!" sentiment from Teach & Inspire.
The new Antique Alphabet was the perfect size & scale to spell out "Bookworm" repeating the same colors used to stamp the books.
I used one of the Half & Half dies to create this cute little bookmark. I stamped it with the same books in the same colors, just like the card. I also added a row of numbers from Back to School to break things up a bit. The little "You're #1 in my book!" sentiment from Way To Go, Kiddo was the perfect complement, added in Classic Kraft ink.
I punched a hole in the top and threaded it with Ocean Tides stitched ribbon and tied it off with a Canyon Clay button and twine.
Just love how this turned out and I'm looking forward to leaving it on Hannah's nightstand along with a couple new books to help this summer be one of the best ever!
Back to School is also great for graduation cards! I used one of the book spines from the set to create this striped rainbow accent up the side of the card using Sweet Blush, Melon Berry, Summer Sunrise, Harvest Gold, New Leaf, Hawaiian Shores, Aqua Mist and Lavender Moon. I allowed space to add the "Class of" sentiment, which is also included in this set.
I die-cut the numbers included in the Back to School die collection from this focal point layer. I stamped the school lines from Teacher Tickets onto the Aqua Mist card base using Hawaiian Shores, positioned in just the right place so that they peek through the number openings.
The die-cut cap from For the Graduate finishes off this easy card.
This simple thank you card created using elements from Back to School could be used for nearly any recipient. The background for the card was die-cut from Soft Stone cardstock using a brand-new Cover Plate that we will be introducing later on this week! In LOVE!
For the focal point, I die-cut the BAck to School apple from white cardstock and then stamped it with the coordinating images using Aqua Mist, Berry Sorbet and Limeade Ice. A small rhinestone accents the center of the apple. I then used one of the book spines to create a little sentiment flag, stamped in Berry Sorbet. The thank you sentiment (from Wonderful Words: Teacher) was added in True Black.
This is definitely another card that would be easy to mass-produce or even change up the color scheme!
For my last project I pulled out Wonderful Words: Teacher one last time to create a card that would be appropriate for any teacher, no matter their gender.
I die-cut the "teacher" from white cardstock and stamped it with the coordinating image in Enchanted Evening. IT was adhered with foam tape onto my white focal strip.
"Thanks for being such a great" was added above that in Enchanted Evening as well.
For the background, I stamped the large open dots included in Polka Dot Basics using Fresh Snow ink. I then filled in each of the openings with the small apple from Back to School using Enchanted Evening ink.
