Now that I've made all of the formal introductions, let's get onto the projects!
For my first project today I wanted to create a modern pattern with this striped square stamp by rotating it with every other impression. Combining this with a rainbow of colors made this one layer card a real eye-catcher.
I started at the bottom of the card with Hibiscus Burst and stamped a series of squares along the bottom right. I then worked my way up the side of the card with Aqua Mist, Hawaiian Shores, Limeade Ice, Summer Sunrise and Orange Zest. I really like the "randomness" of the number of squares I did for each color worked out. I think it eventually gave more balance to the sentiment once it was added.
Speaking of sentiments, I added the large "Happy Birthday" sentiment from Think Big Favorites #24 in True Black ink towards the bottom of the stamped card front.
When looking at this particular patterned square from Square Prints, I thought I would try using the lines that made up the pattern to line the squares up on the diagonal. As an added perk, I was able to pop up the centers with a 1/2" square punch.
As you can see, the grid for this particular patterned square makes up smaller squares in each of the four corners. By turning the square and overlapping the corners with each impression I was able to create this pretty pattern, perfectly spaced and straight without any measuring! The colors I used are Melon Berry, Fine Linen, Summer Sunrise, Aqua Mist and Canyon Clay. I stamped all the squares a second time on a scrap piece of Vintage Cream cardstock and punched out the centers with a 1/2" square punch. I adhered them in place with small bits of foam tape.
I die-cut one of the Photo Finish Strips from Classic Kraft cardstock. I added one of the sentiments from the new Everyday Photo Finishers set using Vintage Cream ink. The ends of the strip were notched as a finishing touch.
The stamped Vintage Cream card front was impressed with the Linen & Canvas impression plate to create texture and then adhered to a Melon Berry card base.
There is a set of two patterned squares in Square Prints that are designed to work together, a striped corner and a single striped side. When combined, you can create borders or overall blocks any size you wish.
I stamped these blocks first onto my white card front using Scarlet Jewel, Autumn Rose and Lavender Moon. I stamped another patterned square the has a bit of a chevron-like pattern to it onto a separate piece of white cardstock using the same colors. I then punched a 1/2" circle from each of the squares, being careful to line up the center of the pattern within each circle. I lined up each of the circles between the two squares of the same color and adhered them in place with foam tape.
The sentiment, from Everyday Photo Finishers, was added in the space between the squares with Charcoal Palette ink.
All of this was adhered to an Autumn Rose card base. A simple design that could be done in SO many different color schemes that would be easy to mass produce.
I was anxious to try watercoloring over one of the stamped squares to get a softer, less modern feel and here are my results.
I started by stamping the three squares, using the pattern within it to line them up corner to corner. They are stamped in Spring Rain, Blueberry Sky and Winter Wisteria. I then added a set of stripes from Background Basics: Super Stripes to the left of each square, inking the stripe with all three colors to create an ombre effect. When doing this, it is best to ink the whole stamp with the lightest color, then add the medium color with several light taps to try to fade the transition a bit, followed by the darkest color in the same manner.
I then wet a paint brush and added some moist strokes to the stamped images, allowing the die ink to bleed a bit. The effect wasn't quite as bold as I wanted to I picked up some ink from my ink pads with my brush and added some bolder strokes with the additional color from my brush. I even added a few droplets and drips for a more authentic artistic look. A sentiment in my own handwriting from the previously released Handwritten Notes set was added in True Black after the paper had dried thoroughly. It was finished with a Winter Wisteria card base.
For my next project I wanted to break in those new Daydreamer dies! I started by creating my background. I cut a block of white cardstock for my cover and impressed it with the Cover Plate: Quatrefoil by using the same sandwich I would normally use for an impression plate.
I die-cut the flowers from Orange Zest cardstock and the stems & leaves from Simply Chartreuse. The flowers were stamped with Terracotta Tile ink and completed with a small black rhinestone to the center. I stamped the coordinating stems & leaves with Ripe Avocado ink. All of these pieces were then artfully arranged to create a balanced floral cluster. This is so easy now that we have the dies to do all of the cutting for you!
I die-cut a Photo Finish Strip from Soft Stone cardstock and stamped it with a coordinating sentiment label from Everyday Photo Finishers in Charcoal Palette ink.
I just love how easy it is to "ground" my projects with these strips. They add so much more than just a regular straight strip of cardstock.
For my last project, I wanted to try out scoring and folding a Photo Finish Strips to create a dimensional banner type look.
I started by stamping my background using the Daydreamer stamp set. With Vintage Cream cardstock, I stamped various flowers with Pure Poppy, Berry Sorbet and Hawaiian Shores inks, with a berry cluster in Summer Sunrise. The leaves were added with Simply Chartreuse, sometimes stamped a second time without re-inking to create a lighter shadow.
I die-cut a Photo Finish Strip from Berry Sorbet cardstock and stamped it with a coordinating sentiment label from Everyday Photo Finishers using Pure Poppy ink. I added two little decorative accents also from the set on either side of the oval.
The Photo Finish Strip was scored and folded to create a dimensional banner type look. I notched the ends to help carry through the look. All of this was adhered to a Pure Poppy card base.
