Welcome to this month's Papertrey Countdown! The holiday season is just around the corner and whether you're ready to start your holiday crafting or you're still in all-occasion crafting mode, today's product introductions include a little something for everyone. With snowflakes, pretty patterns and buttons to share, we hope we'll leave you inspired to make something beautiful today.
This set will whisk you away into the sparkling beauty of a winter snow flurry. Tiffany Pastor has created these medium sized snowflakes that can be used on cards, scrapbooking pages, home décor, or other crafty creations. Combined with the coordinating die set, Snowflake Medley will be the go-to set for all your winter projects. The design in each image can be used to create vintage or modern looks.
The Details:
- Snowflake Medley will be available for purchase on September 15th.
- It will retail for $15.
- Snowflake Medley contains a total of 7 images. The largest snowflake measures 2 1/2inches high by 2 1/2 inches wide. The smallest snowflake measures ¾ inches wide by ¼ inches tall.
- A coordinating die collection will be available for sale separately, retailing for $12. This collection includes a total of 4 dies. The dies measure 2-5/8" (A), 2-1/8" (B), 2" (C), 3" x 2-1/4" (D).
A follow-up to the popular Happy Hexagons set, this is a fun little collection of patterned harlequin-style diamonds, perfect for creating colorful backgrounds. You will love mixing and matching everything and playing with various color combinations. Coordinates well with the Cover Plate: Harlequin die. You can choose to stamp the patterned hexagons through the openings of a Cover Plate cut-out. You can stamp the patterns on the actual harlequin pieces and then reinsert them into the frame. Or you can use the frame to place all of the harlequin and then remove the frame. You can also impress the die into your cardstock using an embossing mat and use the impressed outlines as your guide for stamping the patterns. There are literally dozens of options!
In case you missed this when Happy Hexagons was first release, this video showcases all you can do with this Cover Plate concept. Even though the video is for the hexagons, many of the design options can also be applied to the new harlequin option.
I have also created a Harlequin Color Planning Sheet for you to use, similar to the one created for the hexagons. This chart makes it easy to create random patterns.

Now that I've made all of the formal introductions, let's get onto the projects!
The first project I thought I would start with today is a collection of super simple cards that only cost a few cents each to make and won't take a lot of time. When mass producing holiday cards it is always important to keep them easy, but of course you want them to look good too!
I simply layered two of the snowflakes from Snowflake Medley at the center of the cover. This one I used Spring Rain & Winter Wisteria. I then stamped the sentiment (from Stylish Sentiments: Holiday) in True Black across the center. Two strips of 1/8" Scor-tape sprinkled with Prisma Glitter finish it off. Everything is mounted to a Winter Wisteria card base.
You can adapt the design to several different color combinations, depending on what your preference is. Here is the same card in Aqua Mist & Ocean Tides...
Spring Moss & Simply Chartreuse...
For my next project, I used the Harlequin Color Planning Sheet from above to pair up five colors/patterns using the new Cover Plate: Harlequin die and the coordinating Happy Harlequin stamp set.
I die cut the Cover Plate from Vintage Cream cardstock and used the frame as a guide without adhering it. I stamped all of the diamonds using the patterns found in Happy Harlequin. Hawaiian Shores, Aqua Mist, New Leaf, Limeade Ice (more about this later in the week!) and Charcoal Palette inks were used. I think the sheet music patterned diamond might possibly be my favorite! I then adhered the diamonds using the die-cut frame as my guide. When I was done, I simply removed the frame. This technique is detailed in the video I shared above.
The sentiment comes from the new Happiest of Holidays sentiment set from Dawn McVey. I stamped it in Hawaiian Shores on a piece of Aqua Mist cardstock. The edge of the sentiment block is highlighted with a bit of Limeade Ice Bitty Dot Ribbon and two pearl head pins.
Everything was adhered to a New Leaf card base. I just love all the detail & interest that the harlequin background creates!
Next, I thought I would share a little something using the new Holiday Button Bits dies along with the Bits & Buttons mini stamp set. I opted to start with the little snowman from Holiday Button Bits, he's always been one of my favorites.
I die-cut the snowman body & snowman head from white cardstock and stamped them with the coordinating image in Noir Black Palette ink. I stamped the gingham button from the new Bits & Buttons set using Winter Wisteria and added the stitches in True Black. I colored the upper portion of the snowman in using Copic markers and paper pieced his little hat (using Winter Wisteria Bitty Dot paper). Having the die cut a separate head makes it so easy to layer rather than do any masking.
Behind the snowman, I added snowflakes from Snowflake Medley using Spring Rain, Winter Wisteria & Blueberry Sky inks. The sentiment was added to a thin strip of Spring Rain cardstock.
For my next project I really wanted to step out of the box and use some untraditional holiday colors.
I stamped the new Mistletoe & Holly image using Simply chartreuse & Limeade Ice inks. I then added the ornament strings in Charcoal Palette. The ornaments were done by layering the striped circles over the solid circles found in Bits & Buttons. I used Autumn Rose/ Scarlet Jewel, Sweet Blush/ Autumn Rose and Summer Sunrise/ Canyon Clay. The sentiment (from Stylish Sentiments: Holiday) was added in True Black.
To finish, I added a thin strip of Scarlet Jewel bitty dot paper along the bottom. Canyon Clay was used for the card base.
I created a little trio of quick holiday cards using the new Cover Plate: Harlequin die that I am excited to share with you! I cut three sheets of patterned paper (Holiday Flourishes & Swirls) with one pass in my die-cutting machine and mixed & matched the die-cut elements to create all three of these projects.
First, I layered the polka dot frame over a piece of the striped paper.
All of the sentiments for this set of cards comes from Think Big Favorites #20. They are heat embossed in gold onto a strip of Ripe Avocado cardstock. I used a gold pen to add an accent border at the top and bottom of the strip.
Here the sheet music frame is layered over a piece of the snowflake paper.
I love how you can use patterns with larger elements behind these die-cut Cover Plate frames and still allow the larger pattern to remain in focus.
Here I mixed & matched all of the die-cut diamonds from the three patterns. Since I used only the frames in the last two projects, there was no need for any additional die-cutting. I love that!
All three of these cards have Scarlet Jewel card bases.
For my last project today I have a soft, earth-tone card that is definitely one of my favorites. I die-cut several of the Snowflake Medley dies from Fine Linen cardstock, using the leftover negative. I impressed the paper with the Simple Stripes Impression Plate.
The snowflakes were stamped through the die-cut opening onto the Classic Kraft card base using Vintage Cream ink. A small adhesive pearl accents the center of each flake. A sentiment strip was created from Vintage Cream cardstock and the sentiment stamped in Classic Kraft ink. A bit of Rustic Jute Button Twine was wrapped around the end as a decorative accent.
