We've got a wide variety of new products to share with you today -- a little something for everyone! Whether you're into the hexagon craze that has been popping up everywhere, have a love of all things art deco, get totally excited about vintage inspired typography or can't get enough of the ever-popular banner trend, we're sure to have a little something for each of you today!
A fun little collection of patterned hexagons, perfect for creating colorful backgrounds. You will love mixing and matching everything and playing with various color combinations. Coordinates well with the Cover Plate: Hexagon die. You can choose to stamp the patterned hexagons through the openings of a Cover Plate cut-out. You can stamp the patterns on the actual hexagon pieces and then reinsert them into the frame. Or you can use the frame to place all of the hexagons and then remove the frame. Or you can impress the die into your cardstock using an embossing mat and use the impressed outlines as your guide for stamping the patterns. There are literally dozens of options!
COVER PLATE: HEXAGONS NOTE: Some customers have asked if the new Cover Plate: Hexagons die coordinates with the hexagon background strips found in Rosie Posie. If you were to stamp SINGLE medium & small hexagons from Rosie Posie onto a single die-cut hexagon from the cover plate, they would coordinate. You would not be able to stamp a whole row at a time because the orientation of the hexagons within the cover plate are a bit different than the background strips. The large "stitched" hexagon borders from Rosie Posie are a bit too large to coordinate with the cover plate hexagons.

Now that I've made all of the formal introductions, let's get onto the projects!
To start things off today, I wanted to share a video I put together showing you the amazing creative opportunities that the new hexagon products can give you. It's 30 minutes long, but it includes short tutorials for the following five projects that I have showcased below. I offer up a lot of informative tips & tricks that will lead you to success with these products as well as how I streamlined the basic stamping process.
In the video I refer to my color planning chart. After creating a project with this set with a full background, I really wanted to figure out a way to streamline the color placement process within the cover plate. When using 3 or more colors it can be a bit challenging to achieve that "random" look. I spent some time playing around with everything on the computer and figured out some patterns to use as a guide, which is a HUGE timesaver.

I go into detail about how to use the Color Planner in the video, but here are the basics. When using several colors to create a full cover background, things can be a bit overwhelming. So it is easiest to just break it down into baby steps. First, establish your color scheme and which hexagon patterned stamp will be used with each color. Once you have that worked out, stamp each of the hexagons in their appropriate color on a piece of scrap paper and letter them. The letters you assign them will coincide with what is found on the Color Planner chart.
After you die-cut the cover plate and have all the little hexagons in a pile, you will want to divide the halves and the wholes between your ink colors, according to the numbers provided on the chart.
Here is a sample of the 6 color plan on the chart. It may look a bit complex, but once you actually use it, you will see just how simplified it makes everything! I promise! As an example, color "A" will need 6 whole hexagons & 1 half hexagon. (There is also a calculation for the small triangles on the sides if you need them, but I omitted them for most of my designs.) By dividing the hexagons up between all the ink colors in the beginning like this, it is super easy to stamp just what you need in each color.
After the stamping is done, you can use the die-cut Cover Plate: Hexagons frame as a guide to adhere all of the hexagons into place. By using the Color Planner as a reference, it is easy get all the colors in a good random order without having to do a lot of experimenting.
After you adhere all of the hexagons, you can keep the frame in place or you can remove it, like I did here.
The texture created with all of those little hexagons adhered into place is just incredible. I love how perfect the end result is too, with no fuss lining them up or getting them straight.
I ended up trimming the finished block down slightly and adhering it to a Summer Sunrise card base.
I added a sentiment block using one of the Half & Half dies cut from Melon Berry cardstock. I stamped one of the beautiful sentiments from We Go Together in Berry Sorbet and trimmed the bottom edge with pinking shears. I stamped the sentiment a second time onto Vintage Cream cardstock using Aqua Mist ink and trimmed it into a small strip. Tiny orange rhinestones finish off each end of the small banner.
To help ground everything, I added a strip of Orange Zest to the bottom of the card as well.
For this project, I used pretty much the same process only this time I used patterned papers from Pacific Vineyard, Library Ledger, Dearest Jane & Fine Linen Pattern Pack (stripes). I left the Classic Kraft die-cut Cover Plate: Hexagons in place as well.
Before adhering the frame down, I trimmed away a few of the interior hexagon frame pieces so that I could add a sentiment directly to the card. The sentiment is from Wildflower Garden and I stamped it in Dark Chocolate. I also added a small flower from Happy Hexagons above and below the sentiment in Aqua Mist ink. Small adhesive pearls finish off the flower.
I tied some Rustic Jute Twine around the card base to finish the project off.
This card uses the same process as the last two, only I trimmed the top portion of the die-cut frame off, leaving plenty of room for a sentiment at the top.
I love how these hexagon products allow you to incorporate so many colors into your project. Here I have used Winter Wisteria, Royal Velvet, New Leaf, Hawaiian Shores and Simply Chartreuse.
The sentiment is from Happy Hexagons as well.
I love how crisp and white this card is with all those bold pops of color in the hexagons!
This project shows how you can use the hexagons to form a border. I used the die-cut frame as a guide for placement, but removed it after I was done adhering the hexagons.
the hexagons are stamped in Pure Poppy, Simply Chartreuse and Summer Sunrise.
The sentiment is another amazing option from We Go Together, stamped in True Black.
Everything was adhered to a Pure Poppy card base.
For this project I stamped the hexagons directly onto the cardstock, no die-cutting involved.
To make it easy for perfect placement when doing this, I cut the Cover Plate: Hexagons from regular typing paper so it was really thin and could be used as a mask essentially. I taped it in place and then stamped all of the hexagons, still using the Color Planner as a reference.
The colors I used were New Leaf, Raspberry Fizz, Sweet Blush and Aqua Mist.
The sentiment block was created with the Limitless Layers Oval dies and another sentiment from We Go Together, stamped in Charcoal Palette ink.
For the background on this project, I impressed the Cover Plate: Hexagons into white cardstock, using the same sandwich as I would with an impression plate. The impressed lines provide the perfect guide for stamping the patterned hexagons.
This time I decided to leave some white space as well to make things more interesting. The colors I used were Melon Berry, Harvest Gold, Sweet Blush & Ocean Tides.
I actually cut this sentiment stamp from We Go Together apart so I could easily stamp it in the various colors. This was all done on a layer of Limitless Layers 1.75" Circles. A bit of Harvest Gold stitched ribbon extends from the side.
Now, let me show you a few things I created with the new Background Basics: Rainbows set. This set creates such a fabulous pattern, something with a lot of detail and character. You really don't need to pair much else with it because it is definitely star of the show, so it simplifies things quite a bit. This set surprisingly can be used for many different themes too. Here I have used it for a baby card. I stamped the scalloped portion in New Leaf and the rainbow portion in Spring Rain. I just adore this color combination.
I used the new Bitty Baby Blessings die to cut out the elephant from Spring Rain cardstock. I then heat embossed it with the coordinating image from Bitty Baby Blessings stamp set using White Filigree Embossing Powder. Having this die really opens up so many more design options, which I love.
For the sentiment, I heat embossed it onto a strip of New Leaf cardstock and then folded it into this dimensional banner.
All of this was mounted onto a Spring Rain card base.
My next project embraces earth tones with the same background pattern. I stamped the scalloped portion in Canyon Clay and the rainbow portion in Melon Berry. To add a third color element, I colored each of the open areas under each "rainbow" with a yellow Copic Marker.
I die-cut Fillable Frames #10 from Rustic Cream cardstock and stamped it with the coordinating frame in Melon Berry. I added one of the sentiments from We Go Together in Canyon Clay. I added some loops of Melon Berry Stitched Ribbon under the sentiment and finished it off with some Canyon Clay buttons on either side.
Everything was mounted to a Harvest Gold card base.
This project uses the small pattern blocks from Background Basics: Rainbows. Sometimes people ask what those small blocks are for that are included in our background sets. They are great for stamping smaller die-cut pieces with pattern, like letters or flowers for example. They can also be used to create checkerboard-like patterns like this.
I alternated the two blocks from this set in Raspberry Fizz and Orange Zest.
Above the pattern block, I heat embossed a sentiment from Hello Sunshine (another set being introduced this month, which I will be telling you more about later in the week). I also added a few strips of Orange Zest cardstock to help balance out the sentiment.
My last project today uses the new Heart-2-Heart #5 set. The little banners and the font combinations in this little set are just adorable and so versatile too. I created my banner by stringing some Pure Poppy twine across a block of Classic Kraft cardstock. I die-cut the banners and stamped them in a rainbow of colors using the various banner images. Ink colors are Pure Poppy, Orange Zest, Summer Sunrise, Simply Chartreuse, Hawaiian Shores, Plum Pudding, and Raspberry Fizz.
For the sentiment block, I die-cut the Layerz Mat Stack 1 die from white & Simply Chartreuse cardstocks. I cut the regular Mat Stack 1 die from the center of the Simply Chartreuse piece, creating an open frame. I layered the two pieces together and then added the sentiments, also from Heart-2-Heart #5.
