I meant to get this large heart tin project up before the big reveal last night, but alas, I ran out of time! So I thought I would go ahead and share it with you today!
I found this FABULOUS nougat taffy at Kroger the other day. It is made by Brach's and it is peppermint flavored. Mmmmmm. The festive colors and heart shape added to the centers really inspired me. So I decided to design my tin around them. I lined the inside of the tin with red polka dot paper (from The Goods Collection by American Crafts). It really provided a nice backdrop and helped to bring out the red accents in the candy.
I wanted the tin to have a vintage feel and decided a large flower made from the polka-dot paper was the only way to go! Out came my extra-jumbo scalloped heart punch! I punched five hearts from the paper.
I knew I wanted to give each petal a little more dimension, So I started by pinching the heart in half at the very bottom of the tip.
I then used the round handle of a stylus (you could even use a pen or pencil for the same effect) to curl the rounded ends of the heart in a downward motion.
Once all the petals were done, they looked like this.
I stacked them on top of one another and punched a 1/8" hole through all of them at once using the Crop-a-Dile.
I also punched a 1/2" circle from white cardstock and added a hole to the center of it as well. This will serve as my anchor ring. I threaded the components of the flower onto a pearl brad in the order shown in the photo.
I simply fanned the petals out, added a little adhesive to the back to keep everything in place and attached it to my box! The little tag uses one of the sentiments from our new Mixed Messages stamp set. I tied it to the flower using hemp twine. I just love the way it turned out! I think I will have to make more flowers like this in the future! It would be fun to layer the different sizes of heart punches in the same manner to add more dimension & size to the finished product too! I would love to see your version of this concept! Please feel free to post links to your special vintage flower projects in the comments section!
