Vintage Flower & Taffy Tin

011408_vintage_taffy_tin_2I meant to get this large heart tin project up before the big reveal last night, but alas, I ran out of time!  So I thought I would go ahead and share it with you today!

011408_vintage_taffy_tin_openI found this FABULOUS nougat taffy at Kroger the other day.  It is made by Brach's and it is peppermint flavored.  Mmmmmm.  The festive colors and heart shape added to the centers really inspired me.  So I decided to design my tin around them.  I lined the inside of the tin with red polka dot paper (from The Goods Collection by American Crafts).  It really provided a nice backdrop and helped to bring out the red accents in the candy.

011408_punched_heartsI wanted the tin to have a vintage feel and decided a large flower made from the polka-dot paper was the only way to go!  Out came my extra-jumbo scalloped heart punch!  I punched five hearts from the paper.

011408_pinched_heartI knew I wanted to give each petal a little more dimension, So I started by pinching the heart in half at the very bottom of the tip.

011408_rolling_edge_with_stylusI then used the round handle of a stylus (you could even use a pen or pencil for the same effect) to curl the rounded ends of the heart in a downward motion.

011408_five_petalsOnce all the petals were done, they looked like this.

011408_cropadileI stacked them on top of one another and punched a 1/8" hole through all of them at once using the Crop-a-Dile.

011408_threading_orderI also punched a 1/2" circle from white cardstock and added a hole to the center of it as well. This will serve as my anchor ring.  I threaded the components of the flower onto a pearl brad in the order shown in the photo.

011408_vintage_flower_closeupI simply fanned the petals out, added a little adhesive to the back to keep everything in place and attached it to my box!  The little tag uses one of the sentiments from our new Mixed Messages stamp set.  I tied it to the flower using hemp twine.  I just love the way it turned out!  I think I will have to make more flowers like this in the future!  It would be fun to layer the different sizes of heart punches in the same manner to add more dimension & size to the finished product too!  I would love to see your version of this concept!  Please feel free to post links to your special vintage flower projects in the comments section!

Tonight's the night!  Could you possibly be as EXCITED as I am?  Well, really, there is no way that could possibly be so, because this month I get to introduce you to Papertrey's very FIRST exclusive product.  Yup.  You heard it here first! The reason I am so excited is that we have been working on the concept & design of these for months.  Every detail has been thought about.  We just wanted to continue doing what we've done from the beginning.  Providing the BEST product with quality that you won't find anywhere else!

Papertrey fans, meet heart tins.  Heart tins, meet Papertrey fans!

Large_heart_tins_photoThese are our exclusive large clear top heart tins.  They are quite large, holding a hefty 26oz.  The large clear top heart tins are big enough to hold cookies for teachers & neighbors for Valentine's Day or house a special gift for wedding and anniversary celebrations. Our large heart tins measure about 6-inches wide and 2-inches deep.  They will be sold for $4 each.

Small_heart_tins_photoThese are our exclusive small heart tins.  They are a much smaller version, holding only 4oz. They are a little less than 3-inches wide and 2-inches deep. The small heart tins are inexpensive enough to be used for classmates at school in honor of Valentine's Day or wedding favors for all the special guests on your big day.  They will be selling 3 for $4.

011408_stamprs_box_top_closed I've whipped up a project showcasing our large clear top heart.  (I hope to have some additional large heart tin & small heart tin projects later this afternoon!).  First up, is a project I like to call Creative Candy.  On the top of the box I adhered buttons around the edge of the window using glue dots.  It was so fun to dig through my button stash and pick a nice variety of pink buttons.  I made the embellishment for the middle of the lid from glitter chipboard (ki memories) and a sentiment from our NEW Mixed Messages stamp set.

011408_stampers_box_sideNotice the edge of the lid of this tin.  I covered mine with ribbon.  We designed the width of the lid band to allow you to easily adhere most standard ribbon widths.  It adds such a nice detail to do this and super easy!

011408_stampers_box_openAnd here is why I called this project Creative Candy!  I used small candy cups inside my tin to put together a plethora of pink stamping embellishments for one of my stamping friends!  Think of how fun it would be to get a goodie like this in the mail!!!  Well, it could be YOURS!  We will be giving this tin away as part of tonight's prize package at our release party tonight!  The party will take place on the Papertrey Forum via our website, beginning at 10pm EST.  I will be dropping a few more hints later on!  I will have more to share throughout the day today!  Be sure to stop by later!

011208_stampsFor those of you wondering, we will be offering up TWO sets this month!  The last few days I have shown you projects utilizing Out on a Limb.  Today I present you with Mixed Messages.  A whopping 42 sentiments for only $15 (this is a photo taken of the sentiments upside down!  I can't give away ALL my secrets before the countdown is over, now can I?!?!!)  I designed this set to fill a niche in my personal collection, and I think it will be useful to all of you as well.  There have been SO many occasions where I wanted a small sentiment to use with specific punches.  Something understated and petite.  This set will come to the rescue each and every time!!!

011208_ladybug_wish_cardHere is a little project I whipped up using Little Lady.   Remember that set from WAY back when?  I am always so busy promoting new sets, I thought it would be fun to bring out a golden oldie.  I honestly forgot how FUN this set can be!  The ladybugs made it easy to bring together a quick & easy one layer card together.

011208_make_a_wish_closeupThe sentiment "make a wish, from the new Mixed Messages set, coordinates perfectly with the word window punch from SU!  I just stamped the sentiment on one end of the shape and trimmed a portion of the opposing end off.  I really like the subtle detail that it adds to the project.

011208_floral_fabulous_cardNext up is a project that brings back one of my favorite sets of all time, Beautiful Blooms.  I really like the way the pumpkin & olive pigment inks look on the Kraft cardstock.  Real earthy & stylish, all at the same time.

011208_fabulous_closeupThe sentiments in our new Mixed Messages set are a wonderful companion to those itty-bitty dies in the Nestabilities Collection.  This project used the smallest die in the LARGE Nestabilities Oval Collection.  These smaller dies make it so easy to pull together a real coordinated look.  And I also LOVE the phrase "Absolutely Fabulous".  I have a girlfriend in particular that I plan on sending this to!

I am anxious to hear what you come up with for uses & coordination when you receive your sets!  While playing around tonight I discovered that they also match our smallest Borders & Corners images, along with all the small tag dies designed for the Cuttlebug.   I am quite certain that you will find yourself using these miniature sentiments often!
