Tonight is the night!  The Papertrey Ink website will be updated TONIGHT (midnight EST) with all FIVE of these new stamp sets along with the Making Memories Tag Maker and rims.  The two make wonderful companions to each other and I hope you will enjoy using both in all of your fun paper crafting projects!  We will also be announcing the Guest Star Stamper!

Anyone who knows me, associates my name with a simple style.  And nothing could be so true!  Especially when I am creating something for my own personal use, SIMPLE is just my cup of tea.  So, with that being said, I would like to show you two quick & easy (a.k.a. SIMPLE) types of projects that all FIVE new stamp sets lend themselves to.

First is MONOGRAMS!  They are hot right now, in every design industry.  Home decor, fashion and of course paper crafting.  The borders in these five sets are perfect for turing any alphabet set you have in your stash into a fabulous monogram collection!

071407_small_monogramYou can make a little monogram, using the extra jumbo scalloped punch and coordinating border stamp.

071407_big_monogramOr you can make a BIG monogram, using the mega scalloped punch and border.  Think of all the fun colors you could make these in for gifts.  OR make cute monogram tags for gift bags.  How cute to use these on wedding favors or invitations?  You could even skip the punch, and stamp on something fun like the front of a purse or create personalized hand towels for the bathroom!

071407_rectangle_reverseOne other type of image that I have not yet revealed to you are the perfect-fit reverse sentiment stamps!  There is one in each stamp set, so five total.  They are perfectly proportioned to fit within the extra jumbo scalloped punches.

071407_oval_reverseHow many people have a huge stash of patternd paper, keep buying more, but hardly ever use it?  (insert me standing on a chair waving wildly at how this description could only possibly be for me!)  I think one of the reasons this is so true for many people is that i can be difficult to DO something with it and allow the pattern to remain the center of attention.

071407_square_reverse_2 These reverse image stamps are the PERFECT solution for the whole patterned paper issue.  Here's all you have to do.  Pull that piece of floral paper you've had for years & cut it up.  Pull one color from the paper that you would like to use as an accent and get out the ink to match.  Stamp your reverse images on white cardstock & punch!  Throw in a little ribbon and maybe a brad and viola, cards for every occassion!  Talk about easy!

Tomorrow will be the last day of the countdown and the ALL-NEW Papertrey stamps will be available tomorrow night at midnight EST.  I am so excited for you to see all of these images.  They are just so versatile!

Today I thought I would focus on all the bits & pieces I included in these sets besides borders.  Each of the five new sets contain 6-8 itty bitty images.  Some of you may ask why I created images that are so small?  Well the answer is quite simple. More versatility!  I had several ideas for borders when I concepted these sets back in January.  But I wasn't going to have the room to fit ALL of them on the stamp sheets.  So I decided to follow  through with the remainder of my ideas, but break them down into small pieces.  The beauty of this concept is that you can add the same border to any of the 5 scalloped shapes.  You can even use them with things OTHER scallops, or other brands/ types of shapes.

071307_inverted_punchI decided to work with an oval this morning.  I like to stamp my image/ sentiment first and then invert my punch to punch it out.

071307_adding_image_to_ovalI then added the border detail with the itty bitty stamp.  It was so easy since the scallops pre-determine your spacing for you.

071307_friendship_frame_card_2I added a little paper piercing in each of the accent images that make up the border and added some ribbon and a flower accent.  Instant cute & simple card!  I love how these borders make beautiful cards with just a simple sentiment added.  It really helps to bring it to center stage.

071307_two_squaresI thought I would share some other borders I built with some additional itty bitty images that are included in the five sets.  The possibilities are so endless since you can turn the stamps inward or outward for two different looks.  There is truely something for every style...

I normally try to get my blog posts done the day before they need to go up and then just schedule the posting time for midnight.  I was wrapped up in finishing up a big project all day yesterday, and when I sat down to create my post, I was completely lacking inspiration.  Ever had a moment like that?  So I decided to sleep on it.  And wouldn't you know, when I got up this morning to make David's coffee, I found my inspiration in our coffee cabinet!

071207_stamped_filterI stamped this ordinary white coffee filter with some little bits and pieces that are included in the new heart stamp set using Belle Rose Palette Ink.  I just love how beautiful and vibrant the ink remained on this absorbant surface.

071207_clear_frameI love how easy it is to center images in the middle of the borders I designed for these sets.  For the tag in this project I stamped "love" (also from the heart set) with white ink.  I then inked my border with the Belle Rose and was able to center the sentiment perfectly within my border before stamping.  Ahhhh, gotta love perfection!

071207_precision_heartI also wanted to point out the precision and thought I put into all these images.  Take this doodled border for example.  If you look closely each individual "loop" aligns perfectly with each individual scallop in the punch.  It took a lot of extra time (probably about twenty "do-overs"!) but the outcome is just a beautiful thing!

071207_precision_all_shapes One cool aspect of ALL five of these new Papertrey sets debuting on Saturday night, is that I carried the same elements throughout all the sets.  For example, if you really liked the heart doodled border, there is also one in each set for each shape.  How fun is that!  (All of the doodled borders shown here coordinate with the super jumbo scalloped punches)

071207_filtered_love_bag Last but not least, here is the finished project.  I just put some m&m's in a little plastic bag and uses a twist tie to keep it shut.  I then placed the bag in the center of the stamped filter and pulled up all the sides.  The filter falls into place beautifully when you gather the top together because of the pleats that already exist!  I then added my tag with a little gingham ribbon and viola, cheap & cute wrap!  (You gotta love cheap!)  Wouldn't these make the cutest favors for a shower?  Or what a great way to bunddle little goodie bags for Halloween visitors!  A whole bowl of these in the middle of a table would be the cutest centerpiece for any occassion!

Today's post will be a little lengthy, so get a hot beverage and get comfy!  I have a lot I want to share with you!

071107_tag_maker_toolLet's play name that tool!  Do you know what this is? Well, it's the Tag Maker from Making Memories and it is one of my all time favorite tools.  Why do I love it so much you ask?  Here is a quick run-down...

-The rims are the perfect finishing touch to sentiments when it doesn't look right (or it's just too much) to add a cardstock mat.  The metallic silver is neutral and goes with everything!

-You can turn anything into a tag.  Literally! Cork, photos, patterned paper, transparencies, mesh, fabric (velvet looks incredible!), felt, mulberry paper, vellum.  I could go on and on!

-The rims come in 6 fabulous basic shapes: circle, oval, square, rectangle, heart & tag. AND there are three sizes of each shape.  Some of them even coordinate with the new stamp sets & scalloped punches!  (See more details below)

-Each package of rims comes with its own clear template, so no guessing what size to crop your tag material!

-You can store them in CD cases.  Have one case for each shape.  You can fit all three sizes of the rims in one case, and the template can be stored with them for easy reference.

-You can use the rims just plain to outline a window in the front of your cards.

-they look so professional & polished!

-A very easy way to make durable tags for items around the house (I have used them to label all of the baskets in my studio)

-Also a great addition to gift bags

-You can use them to make keepsake Christmas ornaments or luggage tags.  The metal edge rim adds durability.

-The rims are perfecly flat AND light-weight, making them perfect for sending in the mail without any extra postage.

-You can paint the rims with acrylic paint to match your project perfectly, or you can color them with solvent based markers (Copics or Sharpies are good ones to try.  As a side note, Copics will be available on Friday at Ellen's store, and on sale might I add!)

-The rims edge is about 1/8-inch wide.  You can add a little pattern with detailed stamps (StazOn or Palette inks work best).

-They are cheap as far as embellishments go. $4 for a package of 12 rims (or 33-cents each).

-Once you have "filled" your rim with paper, you can easily create a ribbon slide using your slot punch.

And guess what, Papertrey will know be carrying the full line!  They will be added to the website on Saturday, along with the new releases.

So here are a few things I think you should know about the Tag Maker rims...

071107_the_rimThey have a flat finished  front side and the back features a raised edge with space in between to "hold" the paper (or other material) you decide to turn into a tag.  The raised edge is flattened after you have finshed your inserting.

There are two ways you can flatten the rims after you have inserted your paper.  You can use the Tag Maker tool (pictured at the top of this post) which features a slit lined with two flat metal plates.  You just insert the tag into the slit and clamp the handles together and the matal plates crimp the tag shut.  It is pretty effortless.  Then you just remove the tag from the tool and you are done! (You can also run the rims through your Cuttlebug or other die-cutting machine to flatten the rims.  For the CB, [from bottom to top] you use A plate, C plate, tag rim, B plate)

071107_hammerIf you don't want to invest in the tool, then you can easily use a hammer.  You just tap lightly all around the backside of the rim, untill all of the edges have been flattened down.  It takes a little bit longer, but isn't a big deal at all. (You can see the small spot I hammered flat in the photo here)

071107_template To get your paper (or other material) the correct size for your rim, you can use the handy template they include in the package.  Just place it over the image, centering it exactly where you want it.  Trace over the lines with pencil and cut out with scissors.  (Always cut slightly INSIDE the pencil lines for a perfect fit!)

071107_punched_2If you don't like the idea of cutting by hand or the thought of inserting, you can try this other method that I do quite often.  I use a punch or die to cut my paper.  Sometimes to purposely be larger than the rim, or often I can get lucky and find somthing that coordinates perfectly with the rim.  (This example uses the 1.5-inch circle punch with the medium circle rim.)

071107_gluing_rimI then flatten the rim with nothing inserted into it.  I apply a thin bead of Mono Metal Liquid Glue to the back of the rim and adhere it on top of my circle.  You only need a very fine bead of glue to do the job, and it dries quite fast.

Many of the rims coordinate with the Marvy Scalloped Punches & new Spellbinder Scalloped Dies (Ellen will be starting her pre-order on Friday for the new dies, Papertrey will begin on August 1st).  All of the following descriptions refer to the pictures from left to right...

071107_circlesPUNCHES: extra jumbo, super jumbo & mega scalloped circle punches.  (I do not have the circle scalloped dies from Spellbinders yet, but I assume there would be coordinating sizes within their set as well)

RIMS: small, medium & large circle

071107_squares_marvy PUNCHES: extra jumbo, mega & giga scalloped square punches

RIMS: small, medium & large square

071107_squares_spellbinders_3DIES:  The square scalloped dies from Spellbinders are a perfect match!

RIMS: small, medium & large square

071107_hearts PUNCHES: extra jumbo, mega & giga scalloped heart punches. (There are currently no scalloped heart dies from Spellbinders, but I have heard rumors that they are in the works)

RIMS: small, medium & large heart.  (These are slightly off, but still look really adorable together)

The oval & rectangle rims are not the correct propaortions to fit specifically inside a scalloped punch, but they still have hundreds of uses.

071107_hello_metal_rimmed_tag_card So all of this brings me to my project today.  I used a medium circle rim with white cardstock and the "hello" sentiment from Paper Tray.  The bracket(s) are from the new circle set!  There are 8 little bitty stamps in this set that are so fun to play around with!  I stamped the stitches border (also from the new circle set) with white pigment ink onto rust cardstock and punched it out with the super jumbo scalloped circle punch.  The metal rimmed tag was adhered to the scalloped circle and brads & ribbon were added.  This was SUCH a simple card and could be changed & re-invented in so many ways to fit any theme or occassion.  A "good skeleton" I like to say.

Stay tuned tomorrow for some more tips & details revealed!

I was a little unsure of how to conduct this month's countdown.  It is a little differnet than others we have had in the past.  I have already revealed that Papertrey will be releasing 5 NEW sets on July 15th.  And there is no way to introduce the first set, without mentioning all five.

On Saturday night (midnight EST) Papertrey will be debuting five stamp sets that coordinate perfectly with ALL of Marvy's Clever-Lever Scalloped Punches.  There will be one set for each shape.  Each set will contain a variety of images, featuring a few for EACH of all four sizes of punches available in that particular shape.  So for example, the square set will be all-inclusive and carry images for the super-jumbo, extra-jumbo, mega & giga scalloped square punches.

For those of you who haven't jumped on the scalloped punch bandwagon, there are hundreds of uses for these sets without them.  The punches are a wonderful compliment to the images, but not a necessity.

I thought I would kick-off the coundown with a little tribute to the square set.  It features a total of 20 images.  I love how the squares "nest" within each other so perfectly.  It makes it so easy to add a lot of drama to your focal point.  All five of these sets make it so eay to pull off a simple card effortlessly.

I created a unique spine for this card as a special detail.

071007_two 1. Score your card about 1/2-inch from the edge.  Punch two 1/8-inch holes within the 1/2-inch.

071007_three 2. Lay ribbon accross front spine of card.

071007_four 3. Wrap around to the back and thread ends up through holes.  Pull one end to the left of the ribbon laid accross the cover, and one end to the right.

071007_green_friends_card 4.  Knot around the ribbon strip and you have completed the spine!

Some of you may have seen the big news revealed on Ellen's blog yesterday.  The announcement was in reference to some new & AMAZING scalloped dies from Spellbinders that will be available for sale in mid-August.  Papertrey is proud to be one of the first retailers to be recieving a shipment of these revolutionary dies.  We will begin taking pre-orders on August 1st.

I have some prototypes of the dies that Jeff at Spellbinders so kindly sent my way.  I am truely in awe of how amazing these are.  I will be talking about them often over the next few weeks.

071007_one_2 First I thouhgt I would provide you with a side-by-side comparison of Marvy vs. Spellbinders scalloped squares.  This photo shows the Marvy Super-Jumbo scalloped square on the left and the Spellbinders scalloped square of equal demensions.  As you can see they are almost identical, except the Marvy version has a slightly rounder, robust corner to it.

I know what your thinking.  So do these new Spellbinders dies work with the stamp sets debuting on July 15th?  Well the answer is yes & no.  (I'm so helpful, aren't I?!?!?)  Most images are compatible with both brands of scallop shapes.  There are a few images that were designed to have attributes that fit in each individual scallop of a Marvy Punch.  These images cannot be used with a Spellbinders die of equal size because there is a different "hump count".  Although the images could definitely be used with a die that was a little larger to allow the stamp details to fall within the boundries of the scallops.

071007_punch_storage Many of you have also inquired as to how I ended up storing all of my Marvy punches.  I actually just completed contruction today.  My hubby made a rack from scrap wood that I painted white.  He attached it to the back of my door with heavy-duty screws.  I attached curtains rods ($1.50 ea. at Wal*Mart) to the rack and placed the punches accordingly.  It works like a charm!  And since my door is almost always open, they aren't an eye sore  within my space, yet easily accessible at the same time.  I am really happy about the way it turned out!
