This is undoubtedly one of the most difficult posts I've written in the history of my paper crafting career. Seasons of change surround us in all aspects of life. Some more significant than others
Change can be hard, but it can also be beautiful.
For example, many things have changed since the inception of Papertrey Ink. Eleven years ago I was twenty-seven years old with a new baby along with two other little ones under the age of six.
Now my sweet little babies are growing up and planning their big futures. It's truly amazing to see how much they've changed over the years.
Eleven years ago as I sat at my dining room table with my partners outlining the plans for the development of Papertrey Ink, I had no idea it would develop into the beautiful thing it is today. A paper crafting company that offers thousands of exclusive products. A busy warehouse that ships to all corners of the world. A team of innovative, talented designers that are often pioneers in the industry. A huge, supportive community of paper crafters that connect through the inspiration we provide. All of it is more than I ever dreamed of and is a true illustration of the American dream and the change one can achieve with dedication, hard work and passion.
Change is always necessary for new beginnings.
After much careful consideration, I have made the difficult decision to resign from Papertrey Ink and retire from the paper crafting industry as a whole. There are many, many factors that led to this decision. I have had the richest, fullest experiences doing this work and now the time has come for me to begin a new chapter. I count my time working with this amazing team as a huge blessing and I will always be grateful for the loyalty and support I have received.
I have great faith that Papertrey will continue to be a success with the new leadership structure. This company has a history of always providing innovative products and unbelievable inspiration, and that is something that will never change. We have built something that will go on for years to come, and for this I am filled with pride and contentment. The team here is the best in the business, and I expect nothing but continued excellence from each and every one of them through this transition.
This will be my last blog post here and the company will be transitioning to an all new team blog which can be found HERE. It is hard to imagine not inviting you here to my little corner of the web each month during release week. You and I have been interacting here on a regular basis for over a decade. This has been the source of heartwarming encouragement, inspiration and new friends for me just as much as it has been for you. But I know there are many exciting things in store for you at the new home base, and I am certain you will be in good hands.
So, look at this not as an ending, but a new beginning as a loyal Papertrey Ink customer. As history has proven time and time again, beautiful things can come from change. I hold this to be true for myself as I start down my new path, just as much as I do for this company and your experience here.
With paper hugs,
P.S. A special farewell message from your team...
Before you go, Nichole, some of the members of the team have put together heartfelt messages for you. We love you, will miss you, and wish you only the very best.

“One of my most favorite Christmas memories is visiting Downtown Salt Lake City, UT each year for the Christmas parade. My mom made it a very special experience and it was the official start to the holiday season. I remember walking by the big picture windows out in front of the ZCMI Center, where each year they’d have a grand celebration where they’d reveal their magical picture windows, dressed up with all things sparkly, bright, joyful, and whimsical! My cards today are little examples of picture windows, where I’ve selected themes to go behind each window, each telling a story of Christmastime. This is such a fun way to celebrate the season and use your favorite stamp sets and dies in a creative way. Stop by my blog for another example.”
